Description

Heckscher State Park was once the estate of George C. Taylor and J. Neal Plum in the 19th century. The property was purchased by the state of New York using a large donation from August Heckscher. The 1,600-acre park is on the south shore on Long Island. Picnicking, soccer, cricket, lacrosse, cycling, walking and wildlife observing are popular activities here. There are also swimming, boating, kayaking and canoeing opportunities. Dogs are allowed on leash.
